AO-Talk: Data Visualization. Are We Ordering Space through Representation?
JOB FLORIS / PAUL POINET
What data are used in the planning and design of architecture and what are they supposed to represent? What types of visualizations do architects make use of in their daily routines and what information do they want to make visible? In order to find out whether the transition from the analog to the digital (or vice versa) has consequences for the design process, we take an in-depth look into changes in the role of traditional representation, the emergence of new types of representation in the computational world – for example, the recourse to axonometry and the mapping of Big Data – and bring to light the motivations for recourse to such images and their relationships with history and technology.
For the “Architecture of Order” talk we have invited two practicing architects working on the topic of visualization architecture itself: Job Floris (Monadnock, Rotterdam) and Paul Poinet (Trimble Consulting – formerly Gehry Technologies). Both apply different methods and techniques to the design and presentation of complex buildings, which we would like to discuss on the basis of selected examples within the framework of the LOEWE research cluster on September 23, 2021, at 7 p.m.
The evening event will take place as a video conference via ZOOM and we cordially invite you to participate in the discussion!
Panel Discussion (virtual) organized by Nadja Gaudillière and Chris Dähne.
