Housing and co-participatory design: the Collegium Academicum IBA Heidelberg

This lecture intersects questions of housing, sustainability and co-participatory design, while reflecting on a selection of projects, including the Collegium Academicum IBA in Heidelberg.
Bio:
Hans Drexler studied architecture at ETH Zurich, Technical University Darmstadt, Städelschule and the Bartlett School for Architecture in UCL, and completed his dissertation in 2020 at Technical University Berlin. Since 1999, Drexler is founder and managing partner of DGJ Architektur with Marc Guinand and Daniel Jauslin. Among the most notorious projects on housing, include the Collegium Academicum IBA in Heidelberg (2023), the residential project Kastel-Housing Mainz-Kastel in Wiesbaden, the Wohnidee housing project in Aschaffenburg and the residential project “the only constant is change” in Mannheim. He is professor for ‘Building Construction and Design’ at University of Siegen. Prior to the University of Siegen, he taught at several institutions across Germany, including the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, the TU Darmstadt and the Städelschule Frankfurt.
This Talk has been conceived by Daniela Ortiz dos Santos and Carsten Ruhl, in the scope of the Lecture Series HOUSING AND… It invites a diverse group of guests to examine Housing in between architectural production, the historical, socio-political and territorial context, the heritage and cultural making processes, as well as the public space and the public debate.
